Massage and the benefits of touch - introduction.
Giving or receiving a massage is a beautiful thing. If you've never experienced either, you don't know what you're missing!! Over the next few weeks, I'm going to be doing a massage/touch therapy series that will go through different techniques, acupressure, pregnancy, sensual and more.
I've been learning about it since I was about 5yrs old, as I used to massage my Mam's hands after she'd had a long day at college. Over the years I've delved into all different forms of touch healing:
- Self massage
- Reiki
- Head massage
- Acupressure
- Pregnancy & Baby
- Spiritual healing
- Sensual massage
Touch
The simplest touch holds great power and can have unbelievable health benefits for both physical and mental wellbeing. Gently placing a hand on the shoulder of someone who is distressed in any way, can give them more comfort and reassurance than you could possibly imagine. A hug can relay messages of friendship, love, comfort, support and can create feelings of safety. In my opinion; hugs are life!
The power of touch is bigger than many of us realise, whether tis massage, spiritual healing, a hug or simply holding hands. It can help lower heartrate and blood pressure, ease depression and anxiety, bring comfort, reduce pain and can also be very arousing!
Massage
A massage can help to stimulate the Lymph nodes to cleanse the body, increase blood flow and circulation, helps align your Chakras and regulate energy flow to release blockages and just balance out and de-stress your entire you! I would always recommend a massage to you. I have a full body massage every other week for pain management for my Fibromyalgia. I would be lost without Amy (therapist) and she tailors it to what I need each week.
A flexible therapist/partner is a must and tis better to build up a good rapport with them so things are more relaxed. Trust needs to be built between you and them, whether it's a therapist you pay or a friend/partner, you need to trust them, inform them of any health issued and they need to know what they're doing! I'm not a qualified therapist, but I've been learning about it for 20yrs, so I'm confident in what I'm doing when giving a massage.
I'm not going to go into any specifics today, but I will do over the next few weeks. Touch therapy/massage is a vast subject, which is why I'll be separating them into different categories, so I can expand on them more. Next week I'll be talking to you about Pregnancy & baby massage. There are a lot of dos and don'ts, especially when it comes to the aromatherapy side, as there a lot of oils that can be dangerous to use during a massage on mother and baby.
I'm looking forward to getting back to my roots of natural healing and sharing my knowledge about this wonderful practice. Have a wonderful week! Love and light to you all, my dears xxx
